We are pleased to announce that the Republic of Panama and UNCTAD together with the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) will be hosting a high-level Side Event on Wednesday 20th September 2023 on the margins of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The 2023 global Multidimensional Poverty Index launches today at an official Side Event hosted by the Permanent Mission of Fiji on the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

22 May 2023 ­– The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering, launched the 2022 Gross National Happiness (GNH) Index for Bhutan today. The GNH Index measures the population’s overall wellbeing and happiness across nine domains. Addresses were also offered by researchers at Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies that led the work, as well as Achim Steiner (Administrator, UNDP), Mathias Cormann (Director General, OECD), who profiled the timely relevance of this study on the international stage.

In 2016, 2017 and 2018 many countries reported progress on multidimensional poverty reduction in their Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) presented to the UN. Below we highlight excerpts of these documents and link to the full reports for reference.

The Department of Census and Statistics (DCS) in Sri Lanka launched the national Multidimensional Poverty Index and child Multidimensional Poverty Index today as official statistics to guide poverty reduction in Sri Lanka.
