MPPN and OPHI help organize a side event in OAS General Assembly

On Tuesday, June 20, 2017, during the 47th Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly held in Mexico, the Mexican Government with the MPPN, OPHI and the OAS hosted a side event entitled “Multidimensional Poverty Measurement as a Tool for Leaving No one Behind”.

Panelists included:

• Javier Garcia Bejos, Sub Secretary of Planning, Evaluation and Regional Development, SEDESOL, Government of Mexico
• James Foster, Professor, George Washington University and OPHI Advisor
• Noel González, General Director of Planning, AMEXCID
• Emilio Arias, Minister of Human Development of Costa Rica and Executive Director of IMAS
• José Moreno, Minister of Social Development of Guatemala
• Ricardo Aparicio, General Director of Poverty Analysis, CONEVAL
• Roberto Angulo, OPHI Representative and Ex Director of DPS Conditional Transfers, Government of Colombia

Betilde Muñoz-Pogossian, Director of the Department of Social Inclusion, OAS, was the panel moderator and delivered closing remarks.

This side event was hosted by the Government of Mexico, through the Secretariat of Social Development (SEDESOL) with the Support of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) and the Organization of American States (OAS). The OAS Member States have endorsed the MPI as a tool to measure poverty in the Americas. This event was part of a new initiative of the OAS with OPHI and the MPPN. Mexico is a founding member of the MPPN.

The event took place in the Arena Convention Center, Arena Room, Sections 16-18, Lower Level of the Moon Palace Hotel. Cancun, Mexico, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m on June 20 2017
