1. National Multidimensional Poverty Measure

Dimensions of national MPI: income, educational lagging, deprivations due to access to health services, social security, housing quality and spaces, access to utilities in households, food access.

The Mexican Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) was designed by the independent Council for the Evaluation of Social Policy (Coneval) and adopted officially by the Mexican government in 2010. It was the first national poverty measure to reflect the full breadth of poverty at the household level. The Secretariat of Social Development (Sedesol), which is the public agency responsible for social development efforts in Mexico, has made the measure central to its work on eradicating poverty in the country.

The thirteen indicators of incidence of multidimensional poverty, wellbeing or social deprivation that CONEVAL reports are the following:

1. Population whose income is lower than the wellbeing threshold.
2. Population whose income is lower than the minimum wellbeing threshold.
3. Deprivation due to educational gap.
4. Deprivation in access to health services.
5. Deprivation in access to social security.
6. Deprivation due to quality and spaces of the dwelling.
7. Deprivation in access to basic services in the dwelling.
8. Deprivation in access to food.
9. Population showing one or more social deprivations.
10. Population showing three or more social deprivations.
11. Population in multidimensional poverty.
12. Population in extreme multidimensional poverty.
13. Population in moderate multidimensional poverty.

4. Voluntary National Review
